Welcome to B.E. Warriors Yoga! Yoga has been a passion of mine for about ten years. I started with various guides in self-study and practiced along with teaching aids on occasion. It wasn’t until my husband left for Iraq in February of 2006 that I really felt a connection with Yoga; it offered me confidence as well as peace, a balance between effort and surrendering. I have brought the practice of Yoga into my home and it is now a large part of my family and our lifestyle. Life is a journey, and I am excited to share some of mine with you.
I am not sure where to start, so I guess I will take it from the beginning. I was born in Seattle, Washington in September of 1977. I am one of ten children, and as you can imagine there was never a dull moment in my house growing up. Growing up in the Seattle area I was surrounded by various cultures. I began with great curiosity to dive head first into traditions I did not understand, from delectable food to colorful dances and linguistic beauty. From these collections of expanding ideals my foundation of acknowledging the truth and radiance in all things began.
My teenage years, probably like most, were filled with confusion and immoral choices. I dropped out of high school and began taking a path of using and abusing both my physical and mental body. I was lost and without love. Most of the love I received growing up was conditional. I believe we all do our best with our level of consciousness at the time, so I must have been completely in the dark. At seventeen I had little awareness of my clear life purpose and it was the furthest thing from my mind. When I least expected it, my life took on a dramatic change. I met someone who was the first person to show me how to love unconditionally and with my whole heart. My husband David is a United States Marine and fully embodies the code of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Love and compassion were new to me and the more I resisted the closer he pulled me in, providing security, stability and non-judgment. I often joke that he was a yogi and just didn’t know it at the time.
After a little more than a year we gave birth to our first daughter, 19 months later we completed our family with our second. It sounds crazy when I think about it as a “wise” adult, I was married and had two children by 20, what was I thinking? Perhaps, I wasn’t. Maybe there was someone else watching out for me. I then began to take small steps toward bettering myself, after all my husband believed enough in me for the both of us. I went back to school and received my high school diploma, began to take better care of myself and settle into my wonderful role as a mother and wife. I remember taking a class on meditation that sparked my interest in yoga. I thirsted for more, but I was a busy mom, I concluded that there was not a moment to spare for my own interests.
